How To Choose A Vermont Wedding Barn

How To Choose A Vermont Wedding Barn

Best Questions to Ask at A Barn Wedding Venue Site Tour!

Vermont’s New England rustic country charm is simply unmatched, and our state is home to an enormous amount of wedding barn venues.  Finding the right one can be truthfully overwhelming! There are so many factors to consider while searching for the right one for you!  We have listed below our top criteria for finding the perfect VT wedding barn!

Are the owners / staff friendly and accomodating?  That’s the first sign that lets you preview how your wedding day will go!  If you are getting a bad vibe, look elsewhere!

What are the bathrooms like?  Are they nice?  You want your guests to enjoy themselves and feel comfortable at your wedding.

Are the grounds accessible for elderly people?  Where is handicap parking?  Technically the facility may be handicap accessible, but more than that… is it easy for elderly guests to get around, and is there a good place for them to park?  This is a great consideration if you are inviting any grandparents or elderly relatives.

Is there flexibility with decorations and setup?  What options do you have?  It is crucial to know how your wedding will flow, and what the physical layout will look like.  This is why site visits are so important.

Is there a prep space for your caterer?  Caterers may require a space, or have specific needs.  You need to know what the barn has available, so you can pass that information along to your caterers.

End time restriction?  Town and city ordinances often dictate when your wedding can end. This is essential for planning shuttles, and determining if you need an after party event!

What does your rental fee include, and what extras are there?  What does the facility include, and what extras are there that other barns may not include?  For example, do they include tables and chairs? Or do those need to be rented from a separate vendor?  Those rental costs can add up quickly, and if they are included with your venue, you may be getting a better value!

What is your rain plan?  What is the guest capacity?   Verify the guest capacity, and rain plan.  Make sure the venue can still hold your guests comfortably, even in the event of rain.

Will it be hot?  Historic barns usually do not have air conditioning.  But it is important to ask – what, if anything, is done to keep guests cool and air moving?  It is so important to know what type of fans, or ventilation systems the barns use to keep your guests comfortable!  A good wedding barn should have systems in place to keep the heat from being too excessive!

Other buildings on the property?  What other buildings, rooms, or areas are on the property?  Is there a ceremony site? Is there a place for the bridal party and bride to prep and relax privately?  All are essential to know, so you can plan and visualize your big day!

Is it the right vibe and aesthetic you want?   Does the venue visually and emotionally fit you as a couple?   Does it feel right?  Does it feel FUN?  Make sure to watch videos, or talk to others who have attended weddings at the barn, to get a feel for how fun the day was!

If you are newly engaged, looking for your perfect Vermont Wedding Barn, we wish you good luck, and congratulations!  We hope this article helps guide you on your path to finding the right Vermont wedding barn venue! May the wedding force be with you!  The adventure has only just begun! Cheers!!!!

Barn Wedding Fashion

It comes as no surprise that with the increasing popularity in barn weddings, there has been an equally popular rise in rustic and country fashion for saying “I do”. In the past weddings were only seen as formal affairs requiring black ties and elegant gowns, but luckily traditions have changed and the dress codes have relaxed a bit. Looking your best doesn’t have to mean sacrificing comfort or your unique style. Plus, along with the rustic, elegance of that barn wedding, has come new and unique fashion trends like cowboy (and girl) boots, floral print bridesmaid dresses, wildflower bouquets, and shorter, lacy gowns in ivory and mocha.

Here are some of our favorite fashion inspirations for your barn wedding fashion:

It used to be that bridesmaids all had to match – usually in ill-fitting and not very attractive gowns of satin. We love the idea of having each maid choose dresses of similar style and length, but with different floral prints. The dresses above all have a common color palette in common, but each dress highlights a different color and features prints of varying sizes and style.

This is another example of the mismatched, floral dresses for your bridesmaids. These dresses match a little more closely in style, but still feature different patterns and colors.

Cowgirl boots don’t have to be your plain Jane brown or black. There are lots of gorgeous boots out there with lacy filigree details and wow worthy colors. We love how the bride in the pic above chose the teal colored boots, while her maids got matching, less flashy versions.

Don’t forget accessories! We love the look of flowers in bride’s hair and this crown is a stylish and sophisticated version that looks lovely in this softly curled, half up, half down hair style.

We can’t forget about the guys! It would be a good guess that most men would prefer to spend their wedding day in a comfy pair of Levis and some cowboy boots than a stuffy tux. It the relaxed, dressed down look is more your style and personality then why not? These guys still look handsome in charming with nice, matching jeans, brown vests, and cowboy hats to top it all off.

These guys dressed it up a little more with matching plaid dress shirts and khakis, but it is still less formal than your traditional suits and satin vests. The yellow boutonnière really pops against the blue and the groom is easy to spot with his red khakis and as the only guy wearing a tie.

Barn Wedding Ideas

There are a plethora of amazing and unique barn wedding ideas out there for how to plan and stylize your barn wedding. Most of them are rustic, but a few have an elegant spin on a country feel. You will find lots of ideas having to do with burlap, chalkboards, mason jars, leather, and lace. Wood elements also are popular, such as tree stump cake stands, branches draped with lights or decorated with escort cards, even birch trunk sections serving as sign holders.

We have collected some of our favorite ideas and products for decorating your barn wedding here:

This customized mason jar glass doubles for drinks at your reception and as a favor for guests to take when they leave. Be sure to keep a few for your household collection to enjoy at dinner parties for years to come. www.etsy.com/shop/ScissorMill

Hay bales can serve as multiple functions, from seating at the ceremony, to props in displays to set favors or a dessert display on. Used indoors or out they are an easy and affordable way of bringing a natural, rustic element to your reception.1426007785_Schaefer_Hill_jwoodbery_photography_birminghamalabamaweddingphotographerjwoodberyphotography052_lowimage from www.projectwedding.com

Wreaths can add drama and a pop of color and interest to the outside of the barn. Whether on the doors, hanging in the windows, or a large, oversized wreath on the side of the barn, it can be a statement making element that gives the barn that special added touch.

Galvanized pails are a versatile container that can be used in many different aspects of your wedding day. We love how these are flanking the aisles of chairs for a ceremony, with a simple array of wild flowers they look perfect in an open field by a barn. Smaller ones can be used for centerpiece displays at the reception, or large arrangements can decorate display tables for gifts, the guest book table, or even a buffet. You can also use small pails to house favors or little treats for your guests to sample.

Wooden signs are a perfect fit for a barn setting and weddings need lots and lots of signs! Easy to DIY, there are lots of options for making your own signs. Hand painted scraps of wood can simply be attached to stakes and put into the ground or anchored in a galvanized pail. Or purchase wooden letters from a craft store to spell out special words and paint whatever colors you want. Large pieces of pallets can be stenciled for big signs to direct guests for parking or to the venue from the road. Or for a more polished look, print a sign on nice linen cardstock and attach it to a piece of barn board with brash tacks or gold washi tape for a rustic frame.

Barn Wedding Inspiration

barn-wedding-11

Barns have become one of the most popular locations for weddings in Vermont, New England, and beyond. Perhaps it’s because they bring a sense of history, a glimpse of times long past, when life and love were simpler and joining together in marriage was pure, wholesome, and uncomplicated. Or maybe it’s because barns are just so charming and full of character. Whatever it is, the barn wedding is here to stay and The Mansfield Barn is so excited to be a part of it.
